How Custom projects Work

Story

Before I start drawing, we'll talk through your project, goals, ideas, timeline, budget, and where the artwork will live. This can happen over email, a video call, or in person.

Once we know we're a good fit, I'll put together a project scope and proposal outlining the deliverables, timeline, investment, and usage rights. A signed agreement and 50% deposit gets your project on my calendar.

Explore

This is where the ideas start taking shape.

Depending on your project, I'll explore concepts through sketches, moodboards, visual references, color palettes, compositions, or initial logo concepts. This stage gives us a chance to explore different directions before committing to the final artwork.

For larger branding and illustration projects, I'll present a selection of concepts for you to choose from before moving forward.

Build

Once we've chosen a direction, I'll develop the artwork into a more finished presentation.

You'll start to see the personality of the project come together through color, typography, illustration, pattern, texture, and layout.

For branding, this may include your logo system and visual identity in real-world applications. For illustration and surface design, this could mean finished artwork, patterns, collections, or product applications.

Details

Every custom project includes one round of revisions after the initial presentation.

This is where we fine-tune the chosen direction. Things like color, typography, composition, scale, pattern, or small details. Revisions are intended to refine the agreed-upon concept rather than take the project in an entirely new direction.

Additional revisions or significant changes to the original scope may require an additional fee and/or timeline adjustment.

Launch

Once everything is approved, I'll prepare your final files for their intended use. Whether that's your website, signage, packaging, apparel, fabric, print, merchandise, or another production application.

Final payment is due before final artwork and production-ready files are delivered.

For projects involving a printer, manufacturer, or other production partner, I'm happy to work with them to make sure the artwork is prepared correctly and ready to go.
